I feel comfortable using technology to connect students with each other. I would be able to teach the students how to collaborate on projects such as a presentation. For instance, for a reading 6th grade class. I could assign a summary of the book that each group read and they had to be creative in telling the class about the book. I Would introduce to them different presentation methods that could be used to complete this assignment. Example would be Prezi, iMovie, PowerPoint, google drive and so on.  I would need more preparation for “texture structure” informational text.

In my classroom I would incorporate blogs. I want to be an elementary teacher so thinking of something that little kids can use is ideal. I believe that starting in the 2nd grade students can use the blog to express themselves and learn to start using a computer for doing work. Giving them a way to write what ever is on their mind. The idea would be to make writing fun for all levels. The blog provides for commenting and sharing. For the blogs you can post other multi media on your blog page.

Creating this newsletter, I learned a lot of new stuff that I did not know that you can do in word. I like how you can add in you email and different hyperlinks to a direct webpage. This is very useful if it is an online newsletter. You can refer the parents to the exact website that the students are using and so forth. The part that needs improving is probably the content. I am still learning how to do the different set ups.

I recall the first time I used Microsoft word was in middle school, 6th grade.  We were using it to type up book reports as well as lab reports. Teachers have used Microsoft word to make test, type up syllabus.  They have also used it as a way to make news letters to send out to parents or students with updates on assignments etc.

My experience so far with copyright and fair use of materials in an educational environment would be with using PowerPoints and taking images from the internet. In middle school we were taught that we had to credit where we are getting the pictures from, even if we are getting them from google images. Once you place the image or video in the slide you had to cite where you got it from.  Another example would be for writing research papers or article critics. While writing the paper, I would have to incorporate an outside article. Which can be challenging because the material you get you want it to be in your own words so that it is not considered plagiarizing. Learned that at the end of the paper you have to have a work cited page so that anyone reading your paper or report can know where the facts came from. For my own classroom I would make sure that the students are citing the right way and walk them throw the process until they understand it fully.

This past week I learned how to create a tweet to send out, so that others can see. I learned that you can interact with others that are interested in the same topics you are. So for example we are using the hashtag eme2040, so that we are all connected and can see what others are posting. I believe that PLNs can be used in the future to connect students to other students and teachers. In order to get feedback to stay up to date on assignments and other projects.

Computers are an important part of the educational experience because it gives the students an another way of learning information. Also other ways to put their work or assignments in a more readable format. For instance, having students using word for typing up their essays will make it easier for the teacher to read. Since everyone’s hand writing will not be eligible.  By using technology, it is the teachers responsibly to make sure that the students are ready and well prepared for society. The AECT is a technology organization is meant to facilitate teachers with improving the technologies that they use to enhance a students learning.

One standard that I like for the ISTI for students is the creative communicator. Which is a way for students to show what they learned through creative tools. For example, I movie, PowerPoint etc. In middle school for one of my classes we had to make I movies for chapters to show that we understood the overall message. Another creative tool that I used while in school was creating digital presentations. For language arts I had to create posters, book covers etc. All of that made the students to think out side of the box and get creative with what they were learning.  One that would be outside of my current skill level is innovative designer. I don’t recall there being a time where I have to create a design to solve any solutions.

Digital native refers to people who grew up with technology. The people who can’t remember a time without technology. Digital immigrants have watched technology form. I haven’t seen a real difference in how digital natives and digital natives use technology, with the teachers that I have had growing up. Most teachers taught the students how to use the different technologies for their class etc. I would say that their wont be a difference between me as a teacher and my students, because we have grown up as digital natives, and can relate more to the time they are growing up in now.
