Blogpost 6

I looked at Murray middle school team web page for the gifted program. Looking at 6th grade algebra honors page, on their page you have the supplies that are needed for the class. As well as information about daily agendas, if you missed a class they have notes that you can watch online and find out what the homework was for that particular day. There is also a link to the textbook, and a list of ways that you can bring up your grade.

I believe I would use productive tools, like Microsoft office, to keep up with grades and daily agendas. Making sure that I have planned out all of the materials and ready to teach, with all of my information stored on the computer. To quickly find what I’m looking for. I would also use google calendar to have everything planned out and can see exactly what I have planned for that day.

I believe the smart board can be very effective in a classroom. It allows the teacher to put up an assignment, while being able to write on the assignment as the class goes through the worksheet. It also allows the student to come up and get involved more easily. At the sandbox they showed us different programs that the smart board comes with and I think those are very helpful in the classroom. Whether you are trying to explain how gravity works, you can use the smart board to show the different measurements etc. There are different games like jeopardy that could be used for any grade level. It allows you to customize your lessons.

I believe that for development with in the classroom a lot of these web 2.0 technologies can be very useful. It just depends on if the teachers are using them correctly. Blogs are a great way for students to get their work off of paper and on to a site that is interactive. Instead of always writing your essays and papers and just turning them in, it gives them another way to submit essays. As well as another approach to a writing style. With blogs you do not have to be as formal, you can add in other type of media also. YouTube can also be very helpful in the classroom. A lot of teachers are tutors have posted tutorials on YouTube which can help the students who are having trouble understanding a topic get it. Just as stated in the podcast, YouTube is a place where you can share videos and also find videos to understand an important lesson or concept.

I would use delicious as a web 2.0 technology for my class. Delicious would be a source where all the websites and articles that I find important for the class. When working on a project are even for a lesson, if students need help I can add important websites that could help them understand more, to really grasp the information that was taught.

I believe that 3D printers will advance in the educational world to come. I do not know necessarily how, but I do believe that it could be very beneficial to learning. Making things come to life right then and there to assist with learning will stimulate the students.

Using twitter was new for me, I had to get use to sending tweets and seeing what other people post. I am following other educational pages. Keeping me up to date on things involving education. One article I found was mediation in an elementary school instead of detention.  This article sparked my attention and I wanted to read more. Twitter can be helpful in my future career by just staying up to date with the different changes in education.

The digital divide is relevant and you can see it in the different school districts are even school zones. Looking at the different active learning software this will affect the students who do not have access to technology in their school are community. They would be missing out on word processing, so learning how to write and type papers on the computer, which would help with grammatical structure and spelling. Students are missing tutorials and drill and practice software. They could use this at home, to help them with their home work.  Even educational games that can stimulate their brains, and make learning fun.

When evaluating a website, you should look for credibility. What’s the name of the website who is sponsoring the website? If you are looking at an article on the website, looking to see who wrote it and their credentials is important. It is important to stay away from websites like Wikipedia that can be edited by anyone.
